About Francesca

I was born and raised in New York City, and lived there until I was 35. I’ve lived in Newport since 2006.

I studied Fine Arts at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, had a fifteen year publishing career in New York, worked for Fidelity Investments in Boston, and a gourmet commercial bakery. I started Reiki training in 2002. I finally went to massage school in 2006, which I had wanted to do for many years. I am currently in a two year Zen Shiatsu program at the International School of Shiatsu in Doylestown, PA. I’ll finish in July 2009.

My personal experience with alternative healthcare started when I was 24. I had reversed all the curves of my spine, including my neck, and had bone spurs. I was in a neck brace and had chiropractic five times a week, herbal muscle relaxers and massage. After 1.5 years, I was much better.

In my 30s, two chiropractors diagnosed me with degenerative spinal disease. One chiropractor suggested I have rods put in my spine. I never went back to his office. Instead, I started doing yoga daily and swimming laps in Onset Bay in Massachusetts.

Alternative therapies such as massage, craniosacral, Shiatsu, acupuncture and diet have restored my spine to better health than it has been all my life. I was always embarrassed about my back. My body is strong and healthy now, and I don’t go to the chiropractor anymore. I do still go for long swims in the bay.

Giving a massage is fulfilling. I love knowing that what I do really makes a difference in people’s lives.
